When the groundbreaking show, The Kids of Degrassi Street, debuted twenty-five years ago, it was definitely teen television with a difference. The characters were refreshingly, astonishingly real and fans immediately saw themselves in the series` true-to-life storylines. Legions of teens followed the students through Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi Highand transformed the collective series into Degrassi Classic. Degrassi wasnt afraid to tackle big issues such as Aids, suicide, teen pregnancy, and interracial relationships. But it also offered glamour-free depictions of the daily mortifications of teenage existence -- shopping for your first bra, being the shortest guy in grade seven, having nothing to wear for your school.
